About Jo

Let Me Introduce Myself...

Hi Everybody!

My name is Jo, I'm 21 years old, and I'm a graduate of the University of Queensland in Brisbane Australia. I studied a Bachelor of Environmental Management, but what I really love to do is cook.

I first started ferreting around the kitchen at the tender age of 4, baking cakes with my mother and grandmother, and flipping pancakes and eggs with my father and great grandmother. Since then, I have grown as a cook as well as a person. My specialities are sauces and Italian based dishes, however I firmly believe if you can read you can cook and so I never ever limit myself! I always experiment with new flavours and sometimes I get it wrong, but there is no way to learn like learning from a mistake!

I started this blog after talking to many of my student friends about cooking, and realising how many of them literally had no idea how easy it was to make a meal from ingredients instead of a packet. Not that I don't dabble in packet mixes - if I find a good one, I stick with it - but these guys and gals didn't even know how to boil an egg.

I am lucky enough to be married to an amazing man, who was the first person to help me really embrace my talents in the kitchen. He is a soldier in the Australian Army, and whenever he is away (which is pretty often) he always says how much he misses my cooking, and how he can't wait to come home to me and have a meal that he knows was made with my heart and soul stirred in.

I really do believe that love is the main ingredient in every meal, and whether it is love for the people you make it for, a love for the art of cooking, or a simple love of food itself, a little bit goes a very long way!

My culinary idol is Jamie Oliver. I love his zest for life and how he puts so much of himself into his art. I also love how he grows his own produce, and always finds the perfect balance between good food and healthy living. I am also a fan of other chefs and foodies like Martha Stewart, Matt Preston, Ainsley Harriott, Nigella Lawson, Gordon Ramsay, and Iain 'Huey' Hewitson.

My personal cooking motto, and the motto of Love & Saucepans is:
 "Plate Up Your Heart"
meaning of course to always cook with love.

So I hope you enjoy my little slice of the internet pie, I hope I can inspire you all in one way or another so that you too may grow as cooks, and learn to always plate up your heart.

Keep Stirring and Smiling,
Jo
xoxo
